Question 1 – Within the remit set out above: what do you consider to be the priorities or issues that the Children, Young People and Education Committee should consider during the Fifth Assembly?

1.   Ensuring that plans for children in their early years are coordinated to ensure that children have equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop through play  and that their families are supported and encouraged to be a part of this process.

2.   Ensuring that children are fully supported to achieve their potential through coordinated services and that the early years workforce and services are well supported to achieve this

3.   To ensure that children and young people transition through the different stages of development and education with full support from multiagency /provider cooperation

4.   That all  children and young people have equality of opportunity to access to learning, play and leisure opportunities to enhance their well being and reach potential and that those who need additional  support receive it.

Question 2 – From the list of priorities or issues you have identified, what do you consider to be the key areas that should be considered during the next 12 months (please identify up to three areas or issues)?  Please outline why these should be considered as key priorities.

1.   The proposed childcare offer of 20 additional  hours of childcare needs to be planned in such a way that it is accessible and is of  benefit to  all eligible children and families in all areas of Wales with due regard to specific needs.   This will be key in delivering the outcomes of increasing children’s potential by tacking poverty.  Providers of these services need to feel confident and supported to deliver these services.

2.   Children aged 3-4 years who need one to one support to access opportunities is a key priority as this is not currently fully met across Wales for the 10 hours Foundation Phase offer.
